I started slow and small, I actually only made two slight changes in our everyday life. I have made a list of the things that I’m going to change around the household to achieve a zero-waste lifestyle. And I’m going to share that list after our vacation. For now, I’m finishing up a lot of things on the work side of my life.
The first things that I changed were simple and very achievable. I used cloth diapers again and used reusable food containers when we buy ulam for lunch (we don’t cook kasi late na kami nagigising lol). That’s it! These are the changes for this week. Next week, I’m going to add more “zero-waste challenges” to our everyday life. Yep, I can’t deny. It’s really a challenge for me. Sa pag gamit pa lang ng cloth diaper, challenge na. Kasi extra chore pa to wash the CDs and the reusable containers.
I’m still using plastic though especially for the reusable containers, ang dami kasi sa bahay. I think it defeats the purpose of zero-waste if I get rid of them and buy glass containers (bawal din sa minimalism).
Originally my aim was to exclusively use CDs but failed kasi I’m too scared mag CD if wala sa bahay and dalawa lang kami ni Nishka. But I will try it this week. I only used disposable diaper if lalabas sa bahay and one time nung alam ko na she will poo, I was too tired to deal with poop-filled CDs.
But just by doing these two alone, we have tremendously reduced our waste. Seryoso, before parang every day we throw one bag of waste but since we started doing these na minimize talaga yung basura namin. I haven’t thoroughly compared the difference (Sorry but who has time for that? Not this mom.)
Pero I know, it’s making a difference. Small, yes pero it doesn’t mean insignificant. I just don’t want to be too technical about it.
I also have ordered our metal straws already. I will also be ordering reusable cloth pads. — The fun part is buying stuff! (and honestly I have to change this mindset, since going minimalist na din ako.)
For this week, I haven’t really achieved anything sa minimalist aspect ng buhay ko. I went to SM, saw a sale and bought a bag. Huhu.
That’s it for this week.
I like that I have a blog to share about this journey, it holds me accountable.
Next on my list to post pala, yung list of small ways to start a zero-waste lifestyle and a list of summer classes and playgroups for toddlers in Bacolod. I was looking for a summer playgroup for Nishka and had found a lot of schools that offer it, might as well share it in the blog. 🙂 There might be a delay though as we will be going to Sipalay for a three-day vacation which of course I will also be sharing here.
