The book, Parenting in Joyful Chaos, is very relatable especially for stay-at-home moms. It speaks about the ups and downs of being the designated at-home parent.
While I was reading the book, I really felt the struggle of Stacy in raising her kids. The book shares how Stacy tries her best to provide equal attention to both of her boys while also trying to cling on to sanity.
I can relate with the book so much even though I only have one daughter, but I don’t think I can ever compare to what Stacy went through when she had a toddler and a newborn at the same time.
Aside from sharing a little about her family, Stacy also included a few tips on how to manage raising two boys and taking care of the household at the same time.
One of her tips, was self-care which I think is the most important tip of all that she has mentioned because it is really true that you couldn’t take care of your family if you haven’t taken care of yourself properly. If you lack sleep, if you didn’t eat enough, you will be grumpy and irritable for the rest of the day. And when the baby cries? Chaos is on its way. You have to maintain a positive attitude so that it radiates in the whole household and everyone will be infected. So it’s important for us moms to know when to take a pause when everything feels overwhelming.
She also mentioned that she might never have a very clean house not until her kids grow up, which is also true in my own household. At first I get really frustrated whenever the house is a mess. Whenever Nishka’s asleep, I would clean the house and by the time I’m done, she wakes up and I didn’t have the time to rest which has made me feel so tired that I easily get irritated in the most trivial things. But now, I have learned to accept that the house will never be spotless and that it is completely okay. I’d rather have a messy house than a messy mind.
So if you are a stay-at-home mom or planning to be one, this book is a must-read. It’s very relatable and it’ll make you feel like you’re not alone in this world, that there are other moms out there struggling with the very same thing you are struggling. If you’re planning to quit the corporate world and take care of your family fulltime, I suggest you also read this book to get a glimpse of what it really means to be a stay-at-home mom.
